On the way to Bonneville, '07. This story is about the trip to Bonneville, and what Kerry Fehlberg saw on the way from San Francisco. The first shots show the work being done at Accent Auto Body, on Snider Way, in Sparks, a suburb of Reno, Nevada. Alan Mathers, a native of New Zealand, is the metal craftsman who can be found pounding out pieces for Greta Garbo's Duesenberg, or rolling up fenders for a Ford.
The workmanship displayed at Alan's shop is impeccable, and the projects that he brings back to life are all fascinating.
Up the road about 170 miles is the hamlet of Winnemucca, and that name will become better known as the new America's Car Collection, a museum devoted to restored and rodded rides from days of yore.

The air in Reno is so dry you don't need to paint bare metal, even these 36 3-window coupes. The closest car is Alan's, and the far one belongs to Kiwi Rex of Modesto, CA.

Just another of the jobs in the shop - the '33 3-window has a new firewall, and plenty of old fashioned craftsmanship evident.

Allan Mathers, seen here on the right, makes a lot of 1 off weird stuff and has many Pebble Beach cars under his belt Allan uses no Bondo - he will not have it in his shop.

The Flying A Garage will be fully operational for the restoration of classic cars to be shown in the exhibits.

America's Car Collection is a new venture in the town of Winnemucca, Nevada. Kerry cruised into this place with his camera at hand.

The America's Car Collection museum will eventually hold 160 cars - the Flying A Garage is a great spot for a period perfect photo shoot.

...and this is one of the scenes that Kerry faced when he arrived at Bonneville. This is just to whet your appetite until the rest of his story appears.

Another of Allan's cars, this all metal-finished '32 Tudor is for sale for around $15K. Given the quality of the body work, that would have to be quite a deal for any prospective buyer.

Next door is Butch Ransome Racing. Butch has the fastest '48 Tudor in the place, capable of 7 second passes on a good day; these are just some of his collection of 48s.

Ralph Whitworth and Dave Bengochea are putting a lot of money into this deal, buying up famous cars for their museum; the art-deco Flying A Garage is part of the deal.

The Flying A Garage will be open to the public as a side exhibit, in order to give people a first hand look at classic restoration.
